Although they sound and look similar, these two words differ significantly in meaning…. they are appropriately called false friends or falsche Freunde in German. Eventuell means perhaps, maybe (synonyms: vielleicht, möglicherweise) as in “Wir hören uns eventuell später noch einmal” and so has nothing to do with the English adverb eventually.
