Private German Lessons in London
Private German Lessons at Sprachraum
Private German lessons are ideal for you, if you wish to learn at your own pace,
at a time and a place that suits you. Classes can be taken individually,
with a friend or in your own private group.
A little bit about our approach…
At Sprachraum we start from the premise that everyone is able to learn successfully given the right tools and support. We strive to create a stimulating and encouraging environment in which you learn the German language effectively and have fun in the process. We promote autonomous learning where you are encouraged to take initiative in your own learning and to review your own progress through a range of oral, written and comprehension exercises. Our German lessons aim not only to equip you with practical German language skills, but also to introduce you to the world of possibilities that learning German brings.
Teaching emphasis of our German tuition is on a balance of solid understanding of grammar and syntax together with acquisition of vocabulary. Grammar is the backbone of a language and mastering it is crucial in order to use the language correctly. It also helps to shed light on the inner workings of the language. However grammar can easily become redundant, without words to apply it to. Hence vocabulary exercises focus initially on subjects that are of relevance to you.

German Tuition
Suitable for learners of all levels
Learn German at your own pace, at a time and a place that suits you.
Take classes individually, with a friend, or set up your own private group.
What you will learn
If you’re a beginner, you will start with the very basic: learning to describe and express yourself in simple ways, gradually introducing more sophisticated grammar. Because we know that a common stumbling block in learning a new language is resistance, you will be encouraged to gradually dismantle this block by getting into the habit of thinking in German from a very early stage, however crude it may sound to the senses.
If you’re at intermediate or advanced level, you will be introduced to more complex materials on contemporary topics or subjects of your interest as a starting point to generate a discussion. You will have the opportunity to build and substantiate your own argument. This activity reinforces everything that you have learned, that is using the language correctly and in a more nuanced way, without even realising it. Language is all about communication, so being able to talk about things that matter to you is an excellent way to start.

German Exam Preparation
Suitable for those preparing for German language exams such as, but not limited to, Goethe Institut certificates, TELC, TestDAF, A-Levels, GCSE and university exams
What you will learn
Our German exam preparation courses are devoted to consolidating techniques and strategies to ensure exam success. Depending on the exam you are planning to sit, you will be familiarised with the structure of your individual exam modules. We will identify the area(s) that need most attention and work together to improve your performance. You will be encouraged to practice using available past or practice papers and exam simulation, particularly for the speaking part, and receive regular feedback.
While of course success is mostly dependent on your effort and commitment, it helps having a German tutor who has experienced all the challenges of language learning first hand. It took Natasha (Sprachraum’s founder) ten months to get from A1 to passing her C1 Goethe Zertifikat exam and she takes great pride in being able to identify with her students, as she was once one too!

German Conversation Classes
Suitable for students at upper beginner (A1+) to advanced level (C1+)
What you will learn
Our German conversation classes are designed specifically to improve your oral fluency and widen your vocabulary range. As we know that one of the keys to success in language learning is relevance, subjects will generally revolve around your areas of interests. However lessons may also cover more general topics ranging from current affairs to food, history or music in order to expose you to new words and grammar concepts. You will be given learning materials and tools of various formats to ensure that your learning process is stimulating and immersive throughout.
A typical lesson for intermediate/advanced students consists in discussing a chosen material. This could include newspaper articles, news reports, podcasts, short stories, novels, German-speaking TV shows or films. Students could choose to do this independently outside of the lesson or together in class. During the lesson, your German tutor will create written mind-maps to record new vocabulary including standard phrases, synonyms, idioms and certain grammar rules relating to the topic discussed. Students will be able to take this away and go through them in their own time in order to process and internalise this new information.
If you are at a beginner level and wish to develop your speaking skills as well as confidence, it is possible to create a personalised program to suit your ability. Using short stories and audio books, we will primarily talk about daily life, work, routine and your immediate surrounding.
